Avengers Themed Peer Review Activity

I had a 6th period class of freshmen who were truly obsessed with The Avengers. I mean, we're talking talk about the movies any chance they get kind of obsessed. When End Game hit theaters in 2019, this particular class of freshmen couldn't focus on ANYTHING else.

So in hopes of capturing just a few moments of their attention, I created the Infinity Stones of Writing.

Ta-dah!

Basic Overview + Process

The Avengers Writing Club Peer Review activity is a great independent essay review or a great peer review to be done in small groups/with a partner.

Instead of the traditional check-list, I created a list of elements students tend to struggle with when mastering the expository writing structure.

Typically, I would have students pair up and switch drafts. Students would write some of the feedback on the Avengers hand out, while also making specific marks on the draft as well. At the end of the review process, the partners would discuss their feedback and hand over the worksheet with the first draft. Then, it's back to the draft to make changes and continue revising!

Things to Consider

This activity is geared toward lower-level secondary students (some of whom may still be struggling with expository structure). I typically use this activity toward the end of the first semester or mid-second semester.

If you're hoping to use this activity during distance and/or concurrent learning, it can still work! Having the digital file for students can be super helpful. Here's how I would run this activity in a concurrent classroom:

- Have students share their first draft with another student

- Assign the Avengers Writing Club on Google Classroom or Canvas

- Show students how to do split screen to have the essay and the Writing Club Assignment side-by-side

- BEFORE students begin working, have them share the Writing Club Assignment with the student they have "traded papers" with.

Again, having the Google File of this assignment can be helpful for you as the teacher so you can add items/change terminology, etc.

Hopefully this activity will engage your students and help them on their way to become better writers!
